Storming Prompt: August 2017

Late again! Rats! Oh well. :)
I've made a little something different this time. I've seen some of these on Pinterest and they're always fun. At least, in my opinion, they are. I'm not sure I have the same talent as those who created the ones on Pinterest...but I thought I'd give it a go anyway. Therefore:

Rules
1. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A WRITER TO PARTICIPATE!
2. View/Read/Listen to the prompt with a mind primed to explore the possibilities!
3. You don't have to answer all of the questions I pose. They are there merely to aid your mind in taking imaginative flight.
4. Share what ideas you gained in the comments. This could include a bit of dialogue, a general scene sketch, a plot problem, character names, and place, or even the 'history' of a prompt. (But, if the idea you create happens to be so great, you might want to save it for a future date!)
5. Read and perhaps add to the other replies and answers submitted. (Recommended not required)

What can you do with...

No added questions here as I don't want to guide your thoughts in any way.
I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Yours truly,
Cordy

Creative Details: Numbers and Time

Hmm, what on earth could Cordy have to say about time and numbers on a writing blog? Well, it's nothing earth-shattering, but it is a little something you can do with the details of your work in progress.

Sometimes when reading I can feel the book was just written rather than experienced while it was being written. It's more like I'm just reading the story of a character rather than living the story along with the character. So I'll probably pop in with these "Creative Details" post every once in awhile that touch on some helpful hints I've discovered for taking that raw edge off your writing to make it more engaging.

I can't remember when I first began to notice mentions of time and numbers in my reading material but it happened. :) They are minor seemingly unimportant phrases and yet I've found them to be an unexpected means of adding polish and almost a sophistication to what I'm reading. That being so I've created a list of a few number and time terms to consider when writing.

Time/Number Terms
A quarter after __:__
Day before yesterday
Half past __:__
Century ago
a dozen at least
ages ago

So, if you're writing a novel and wish to add an easy finish to your story try changing the phrasing used to describe time and numbers.

Yours truly,
Cordy

P.S. These terms are especially helpful in the mystery genre! :D

Storming Prompt: July 2017

I think the heat of the summer influenced my choice for a prompt this month. I wanted to run away from the heat and hideaway in someplace cool. This picture seemed to fit the bill.

Where is this place? Are the birds important? Is it a Watchtower? A safe house? Who are the people involved who would value such a place?

Hope you enjoy and that you're all staying as cool as can be!

Yours truly,
Cordy

P.S. Sorry for the lateness of the post. I'm running a little behind in my blogging world. :)
